Supercomputer creates virtual brain
Scientists have created a virtual mouse brain with the help of a supercomputer to study brain function and Alzheimer's. Experts from the Allen Institute in the US and the University of Electro-Communications in Japan have found that the cortex, made of 9 million neurons and 26 billion synapses, can perform quadrillion calculations per second. A rat brain is smaller and less complex than a human brain, but there are many similarities.
