The place where Lord Brahma's head was severed
The ‘Brahma Kapalam’ is located 2 km from the Badrinath shrine, on the banks of the Alaknanda river. According to legend, when Brahma seduced Goddess Saraswati, Lord Shiva cut off one of his five heads with his trident. That is why devotees believe that Brahma has only four heads. It is said that the place where that head fell has become the ‘Brahma Kapalam’. It is believed that offering a pinda to the ancestors here will grant salvation.
