A fierce conflict continues to rage in the Middle East between the U.S.-Israel alliance and Iran. Working in tandem, the United States and Israel are launching relentless, successive strikes against targets belonging to Iran and its proxies. However, Iran has also inflicted significant damage upon Israeli assets and U.S. military bases located in the Gulf nations through missile and drone attacks. Amidst this ongoing conflict, however, Iran has taken a step that could potentially escalate the risks it faces in the war. Specifically, Iran has attacked a French military base situated in Iraq, an incident that resulted in the death of one soldier and left several others injured. Consequently, fears are now mounting that France, too, may initiate retaliatory strikes against Iran. **Drone Attack Launched** According to emerging reports, Iran specifically targeted a French base in Iraq during the assault. Iran executed a massive strike within Iraqi territory, specifically targeting the French military base located in Erbil, Kurdistan. The attack involved a barrage of multiple drones striking the French facility in rapid succession. Initial reports indicated that six French soldiers were injured in the attack; subsequently, French President Macron confirmed that one soldier had also lost his life in the incident. It is noteworthy that this marks the first instance in which Iran has targeted a French military base. **Emmanuel Macron Issues Statement** French President Emmanuel Macron has issued a statement regarding Iran's attack on the French military base. He stated: "Chief Warrant Officer Arnaud Friant of the 7th Battalion of the *Chasseurs Alpins* from Varces, France, was killed during an attack in the Erbil region of Iraq. To his family and to his brothers-in-arms, I wish to express the nation's deepest affection and solidarity. Several of our soldiers have been wounded; France stands with them and their loved ones. This attack against our forces—which have been engaged in the fight against Daesh since 2015—is unacceptable. Their presence in Iraq is an integral part of the rigorous framework of the fight against terrorism. The conflict in Iran cannot serve as a justification for such attacks."
