"Artist Amresh Mahajan dies during Ramlila performance, mourning in Chamba"
Chamba: A tragic accident occurred during the Shri Ramlila performance in Chamba, Himachal Pradesh. 73-year-old veteran actor Amresh Mahajan, playing the role of Dasharatha, suddenly collapsed from his throne and died. Doctors stated that he died of cardiac arrest. The incident occurred around 8:30 pm on Tuesday night. Amresh Mahajan, also known as Shibu, a resident of Mohalla Mughala, had been actively participating in the Shri Ramlila held at Chamba's historic Chaugan for the past 40 years.
People reported that Amresh was known for playing the roles of Dasharatha and Ravana in the Ramlila. This time, he had already told his companions that this would be his last Ramlila. People thought this would be a joke, but his words turned out to be true, and he died while performing.

Tuesday was the second day of the Shri Ramlila performance. The program was to include Dasharatha Darbar and Sita Swayamvar. While the scene from Dashrath Darbar was being performed on stage, Amresh Mahajan suddenly collapsed. Fellow actors immediately attended to him and rushed him to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital, Chamba, but by then it was too late. Doctors declared him dead after examination.
The entire Chamba region was shocked by the news of Amresh Mahajan's passing. Swapan Mahajan, President of the Shri Ramlila Club, expressed his deep sorrow, saying that Amresh Mahajan's contribution had been invaluable. Virendra Mahajan, President of the Chamber of Commerce, Chamba, also offered his condolences. Dr. Pankaj Gupta, Principal of the Medical College, Chamba, stated that he died of cardiac arrest.
It is worth noting that the Shri Ramlila has been held in Chamba continuously since 1949. At that time, Lala Sansar Chand Mahajan founded the Ramlila Club in his desire for a son, and since then, the tradition of staging this historic performance in the Chaugan has begun.
