Curbs on Gold Imports
The Central Government is implementing a series of measures aimed at curbing gold imports into the country. Having raised the import duty on gold and silver from 6 percent to 15 percent—effective from Wednesday—the Central Government announced on Thursday that it is capping gold imports under the Advance Authorization Scheme at 100 kilograms. Under this scheme, jewelry exporters are facilitated to import raw materials (raw gold) and input materials without paying any customs duty.
