Bhogi has many special significance. This is the day when Goddess Goda merged with Sriranganatha and attained ultimate 'bliss'. This is also the time when Emperor Bali comes to Earth with the boon granted by Vamana. Bhogi bonfires are lit to welcome him. It is also the sacred day when Lord Krishna humbled Indra's pride and lifted the Govardhana hill.
