Electric Cars Account for Only 5% of Sales... Is This the Reason?
Despite the growing demand for electric vehicles across the country, the share of electric cars within the overall car market remains under five percent. In FY26, a total of 229,000 electric cars were sold. Industry sources note that while this marks a growth compared to the previous year (123,400 units), sales are not rising as rapidly as anticipated. They attribute this trend to a shortage of charging stations, as well as lingering doubts regarding car range and resale value.
