Heart Attack Risk Persists Even with Normal Cholesterol Levels
Many people tend to focus solely on their HDL and LDL levels when reviewing blood test results. However, doctors warn that Lipoprotein(a)—or Lp(a)—is a primary culprit behind heart attacks, even in individuals whose overall cholesterol levels appear normal. Since this condition is genetic, its levels remain constant in the body from birth, independent of diet or exercise habits. Elevated levels of Lp(a) increase the risk of blockages in blood vessels and the formation of blood clots. This risk is particularly high among Indians.
