Life Imprisonment for Son of Former Chhattisgarh CM
The Chhattisgarh High Court has sentenced Amit Jogi—son of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi and chief of the Janata Congress—to life imprisonment in a murder case. The court overturned a previous verdict that had acquitted him of the charges. On June 4, 2003, Ramavatar Jaggi—a close associate of NCP leader Vidya Charan Shukla—was shot dead in broad daylight. The police named 31 individuals, including Amit, as accused in this case. Subsequently, several of the accused obtained relief from the courts.
