Pooja’s ‘Record’ Jump
At the Asian Under-20 Athletics Championships, Indian teenage sensation Pooja Singh shattered a 14-year-old national record in the high jump event. The 19-year-old Pooja, hailing from Haryana, cleared a height of 1.93 meters, thereby setting a new record at the senior level. In doing so, she surpassed the previous record of 1.92 meters, which had been set by Sahana Kumari in 2012. Elsewhere in the championships, Nitin won gold in the 5000m race walk; Amanat took gold in the discus throw; Rahul secured gold and Upkar won silver in the decathlon; Sadhana Devi claimed silver in the triple jump; and Neeru Pathak won bronze in the 400m race.
