New Delhi: The Supreme Court has dismissed a petition challenging the orders issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, which called for the singing of the national song, 'Vande Mataram,' during official events and in schools. The Court clarified that singing the song is not mandatory. A bench comprising Chief Justice Justice Surya Kant, Justice Joymallya Bagchi, and Justice Vipul M. Pancholi noted that nowhere was it stated that legal action would be taken against those who do not sing 'Vande Mataram'; the bench characterized the petition as an immature and hasty move.
