The mosque committee asked for a four-day reprieve.
The administration is once again cracking down on illegal constructions in Sambhal district, especially on the day of Ravana Dahan. A heavy police force has been deployed for this purpose. The demolition of illegal constructions began on Thursday after an order was issued to demolish a mosque and a marriage home built on illegally occupied pond land. This major action is taking place in Raya Buzurg village of Sambhal. According to the administration, the construction was done illegally on government pond land. The action, which began at 11 am on Thursday, is ongoing. The administration is fully prepared to maintain law and order. Several companies of paramilitary forces and police were present at the scene during the action.
The SDM stated that a notice was issued on June 26, 2025, and a case was registered under Section 68 of the UPRC. The order was issued on September 2, 2025. There are two government plots, one of which is plot number 691, which is a pond area, totaling 2160 square meters. The other is plot number 469, which is 592 square meters. One site houses a marriage hall, and the other a mosque. Action was taken in accordance with the order. A legally appropriate notice was issued, and an objection was filed in court, after which the order was passed. This construction was done at least 10-15 years ago. Both were built by a person named Minjar."
Meanwhile, Minjar explained, "The marriage hall is very old. It was originally empty, but gradually, as money and people increased, we rebuilt it. The mosque isn't that old; our elders built it. We currently live outside and drive, so we weren't aware of this. But the notice has been issued in my name."
Mosque Committee Seeks Mosque Respite
The mosque's management committee has requested a four-day extension from the district administration, pleading not to demolish the mosque. The administration has granted the four-day extension, and the mosque's management committee will demolish the mosque itself within four days. According to reports, the district administration has demolished the marriage hall with a bulldozer, and the management committee will demolish the mosque itself. If this doesn't happen, the administration may take a further decision.
