Nepal President extends Vijayadashami greetings Nepal President Ramchandra Poudel on Thursday wished the country stability and prosperity on the occasion of Vijayadashami. Vijayadashami is the 10th day of the Bada Dashain festival, which is celebrated with great enthusiasm in the Himalayan nation. Sources in the President's Office said that as per tradition, President Poudel was administered the tilak (inoculation) by priests Arjun Adhihari and Devraj Aryal at the auspicious time of 11:53 am on the occasion of Vijayadashami. However, in view of the recent political turmoil in the country, Poudel and Prime Minister Sushila Karki did not administer the tilak to citizens on the occasion of Bada Dashain this year. How Dussehra is Celebrated in Nepal Archana Khadka, Information Officer at the President's Office, stated that given the current situation in the country, no tika ceremony will be held by the President. In the past, the President traditionally administered tika to the general public on this occasion. In his message, Poudel said, "On Vijayadashami, the day of Vijayadashami, which symbolizes the victory of truth, righteousness, and justice, we receive blessings, tika, and jamara from respected elders. I pray to Goddess Durga for harmony, goodwill, and well-being throughout the country." In Nepal, receiving a vermillion tika from elders is considered a symbol of blessings, prosperity, and the victory of good over evil. Tika is prepared from offerings made during the nine-day puja held after Ghatasthapana. Nepal's PM Karki also did not participate in the tika ceremony this time. This is the first major festival being celebrated in Nepal since the recent violent Gen Z protests, which led to a change of government in the country. At least 19 protesters were killed in police firing on September 8. The Gen Z protests forced K.P. Sharma Oli to step down. Gen Z refers to the generation born between 1997 and 2012. As violence continued, the total death toll during the two-day protests against the Oli government over corruption and the social media ban reached 75. Karki was sworn in as the Prime Minister of the interim government on September 12. The Prime Minister's Office said Karki announced that she would not participate in the traditional ritual of receiving the vaccine and the Jamara. The statement said the decision was taken out of respect for the victims of the recent Gen Z protests.
