Absence of Name from Voter List Does Not Mean Loss of Citizenship
New Delhi: The Supreme Court made significant observations on Friday regarding the deletion of names during the Special Summary Revision (SSR) of electoral rolls. It remarked that the removal of a name from the voter list does not equate to the revocation of citizenship. The Court clarified that the Election Commission is not the final constitutional authority for determining citizenship. It stated that if a name is removed due to suspicions regarding a person's citizenship status, the Election Commission (EC) must inform the Central Government of the matter.
