Anwar Ibrahim confirms: "Modi will not visit Malaysia, will join virtually"
Malaysia ASEAN Summit: Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has confirmed that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not travel to Kuala Lumpur for the 47th ASEAN Summit but will attend it virtually. Anwar Ibrahim said on social media, "We have discussed the organization of the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur later this month."

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said, "He (PM Modi) informed me that due to the ongoing Diwali celebrations in India, he will attend virtually. I respect his decision and wish him and all the people of India a very happy Diwali."

Prime Minister Modi earlier said on Thursday that he would participate virtually in the ASEAN-India Summit in Malaysia next week. PM Modi informed Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of this over the phone on Thursday. In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, "I had a warm conversation with my dear friend, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. I congratulated him on Malaysia's chairmanship of ASEAN and wished him success in the upcoming summits. He said, "I look forward to virtually attending the ASEAN-India Summit and further deepening the ASEAN-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership."
Trump to visit Kuala Lumpur
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) meetings are scheduled from October 26 to 28. Malaysia has invited US President Donald Trump, as well as leaders of several ASEAN dialogue partner countries. Trump will visit Kuala Lumpur on a two-day visit on October 26.

The 10 member countries of ASEAN include Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, and Cambodia. Bilateral relations between India and ASEAN have grown significantly over the past few years, with a focus on enhancing cooperation in trade and investment, as well as security and defense sectors.
