Former Inspector General (IG) of Punjab Police Amar Singh Chahal shot himself at his residence in Patiala, Punjab, and sustained serious injuries. He was immediately taken to Park Hospital in Patiala for treatment, where a team of doctors is currently treating him. His condition is critical. Police have recovered a 12-page suicide note from the scene. Patiala, December 22: Former Punjab IPS officer Amar Singh Chahal attempted suicide by shooting himself at his residence in Patiala today. He has been admitted to the hospital and his condition is still critical. According to sources, he attempted suicide due to severe financial loss and mental stress. The suicide note recovered from the spot indicates severe financial loss and mental distress due to online fraud, police said. The authorities have launched a detailed investigation to ascertain the sequence of events and verify the contents of the note. A police team rushed to the spot after receiving information about the firing and Chahal was immediately taken to the hospital. His condition is critical and doctors are trying their best to save him. Incidentally, Chahal, a retired Inspector General of Police, is one of the accused in the 2015 Behbal Kalan and Kotkapur firing cases in Faridkot. In 2023, the Punjab Police Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Additional Director General of Police L.K. Yadav had filed a chargesheet against Chahal, several police officers, and former chief ministers Parkash Singh Badal and Sukhbir Singh Badal in the case. Amar Singh Chahal's family members have alleged that he was a victim of online fraud and lost Rs 8 crore. He also detailed this in his 12-page suicide note.
