Clash erupts over forest land dispute in Rishikesh, police pelted with stones.
Following stone-pelting at police during an operation on forest land in Rishikesh, a heavy police presence has been deployed in the area. Police also conducted a flag march throughout the area. Efforts are underway to identify those who threw stones. Police are also searching for those who incited the crowd.
Angry people sit on railway tracks
The Forest Department was carrying out demarcation work on vacant forest land in the Gumaniawala and Shivaji Nagar areas of Rishikesh. During this operation, people angered by the action sat down on the railway tracks, attempting to block trains. Police and administrative teams tried to reason with the crowd, but someone from the crowd threw a stone at the police, and the situation quickly escalated into a serious incident of stone-pelting.
PAC team called in
Police and other security personnel retreated in self-defense and tried to disperse the crowd by using batons, but the crowd remained at the scene. A team from the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) was called in. Police and administrative officers remained at the scene until late at night.
Strict action will be taken against those who obstruct the process
The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Dehradun also arrived at the scene and assessed the situation. Police say that the Forest Department is carrying out its work as per the directions of the Supreme Court. Strict action will be taken against those who obstruct the process.
