Crisis within the AIADMK
Chennai: A crisis has engulfed the AIADMK, the party in Tamil Nadu that has recently lost even its status as the official opposition. Seventeen MLAs wrote a letter to Pro-tem Speaker Karuppiah, electing AIADMK General Secretary and former Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami (EPS) as their Legislative Party Leader. Simultaneously, another group of 30 MLAs signed a separate document, electing senior leader S.P. Velumani as the Legislative Party Leader and C.V. Shanmugam as the Deputy Floor Leader. This turn of events suggests that a split within the AIADMK is now inevitable.
