A powerful earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale struck northern Japan today (Thursday). The Japan Meteorological Agency reported that the quake occurred off the coast of the Iwate region on the main island of Honshu, with its epicenter located at a depth of 50 kilometers below sea level. Tremors were felt across many parts of the country, including Tokyo. The sudden shaking caused panic among the public; household items swayed, and people rushed out of their homes in fear for their lives.
