He gave India its first Test victory
Today is the birthday of Captain Vijay Hazare, who gave India its first Test victory (against England in 1952). He was born in 1915 in Sangli (Maharashtra). He scored 2192 runs and 20 wickets in 30 Tests for India. He captained 14 Tests. He scored 18,740 runs and 595 wickets in 238 matches in FC. He is the first Indian player to score 2 triple centuries in FC and 2 centuries in a single Test. The Centre has honoured him with the Padma Shri. A tournament is being organised in his name.
