Houthi Drone Attack Near Mecca
Hostilities between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis have escalated. Early Wednesday morning, Saudi Arabia's air defense system detected and shot down a drone—suspected to have been launched by the Houthis—south of Mecca. Coalition spokesperson Turki al-Maliki announced that the drone was neutralized before it could reach the holy city of Mecca and described the incident as a terrorist act by the Houthis. However, the Houthis denied Saudi Arabia's claim that the drone attack was aimed at Mecca.
