Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated on Wednesday that while it is currently "very difficult" to speak directly with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, his presence remains a major source of strength for the country's leadership, enabling them to respond to the attacks being launched against them. In an interview with Iran's state media, IRIB, Pezeshkian noted that although direct communication with the Supreme Leader is challenging, Mojtaba Khamenei has consistently provided support as Iran navigates this period of high tension.
How the Meeting Took Place
Citing sources, *Iran International* reported that when President Masoud Pezeshkian went to meet Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, the meeting took place in the back seat of a car. He was taken to a secret location in Tehran, where he was seated in a car with tinted windows; he was allowed only a few minutes with the individual in the back seat—identified as Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei. Pezeshkian described the meeting as meaningful, noting that Khamenei showed kindness and presented very sound arguments during the conversation.
What Else Pezeshkian Said
The Iranian President mentioned that certain groups were attempting to sow discord by portraying a negative image of Mojtaba Khamenei. He referred to a recent decision-making process in which Khamenei accepted the outcome of a council review after a proposal secured 12 out of 13 votes. Pezeshkian remarked, "What he said was absolutely correct." He further stated that the acceptance of the expert opinion was later exploited by some individuals to stir up controversy and make unfounded claims.
**Mojtaba Not Seen Even at Father's Funeral**
It is worth noting that Mojtaba Khamenei assumed the role of Iran's Supreme Leader after his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed in a US-Israel attack on February 28—an attack that triggered the war in West Asia. Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is injured and has not appeared in public. While he has issued written statements, his absence from public events has raised questions regarding his health and his relationships with other senior officials. Notably, he did not attend his father's funeral ceremonies last month either.
