Lowest temperature in 20 years: Schools defy Vijaypur DC order
Vijayapura, December 22: Cold has increased in the state. Especially in the sunny Vijayapura district, the cold is more severe than other districts of the state. Record temperatures have been recorded. Against this backdrop, the district administration has issued an order to change the starting time of all schools till December 31. However, parents have expressed dissatisfaction that this order has not been followed.
Order to change school timings
The minimum temperature has been recorded in Vijayapura district this time. The 3rd minimum temperature in 20 years and the 4th lowest temperature in 10 years have been recorded. The severity of the cold has affected the health of school children, the elderly and those suffering from various diseases. The reason was the cry for changing the starting time of all schools. In addition, according to the State Disaster Management and IMD Bangalore, appropriate precautionary measures should be taken in the backdrop of the cold winds still blowing in the state. Against this backdrop, Vijayapura District Commissioner K. Anand had changed the timings of all schools and issued an order on December 20.
The order mentioned that all government, government-aided and private schools in the district should start at 10 am. Even after two days of the order, many schools have started their classes earlier in the morning than before. This has angered parents.
Who is responsible if it affects the health of children?
Is there no value in the DC order? Even though the time has been changed due to severe cold, why is it not being followed? Who is responsible if it affects the health of children, said Kallimani, a resident of the city, Somnath.
There are 1,939 government schools in Vijayapura district, with 2,26,260 students studying. Government schools start from 10 am, and there is no problem for students. There are 347 aided schools, with 72,457 students enrolled. In addition, there are 1,158 private schools, with 1,89,308 students studying.
Schools that do not follow the order
The starting time of government-aided and private schools is different. The timings of each institution are different. But due to the current cold, the DC has issued an order that all schools should start at 10 am, which is not being followed. This may cause problems in the future. Most of the aided and private schools are not following the order. DDPI Veeraiah Salimath has informed that the DC order was delivered to all the schools yesterday. However, no order has been received from the DDPI office, and the management boards of the aided and private schools have said that they will follow the order as soon as it is received. Parents have also expressed dissatisfaction over this issue.
All schools have to change the starting time from tomorrow at least as per the DC order. Otherwise, the health of the children is likely to be affected due to the cold due to the time fixed as per their own wishes. There is a high possibility of further minimum cold in the coming days.
