Margaret Ramtharsiem became an inspiration for self-reliant India.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation through the 129th episode of his 'Mann Ki Baat' program. This was the last episode of the year, in which he discussed the country's achievements in 2025 and also touched upon the challenges, opportunities, and development prospects for the new year 2026. During the program, PM Modi also mentioned Margaret Ramtharsiem from Churachandpur, Manipur.
Margaret's work highlighted in 'Mann Ki Baat'
In the 'Mann Ki Baat' program, PM Modi said, "Mann Ki Baat is also a platform to bring forward people who, through their hard work, are not only promoting traditional arts but also empowering local people. Margaret Ramtharsiem from Churachandpur in Manipur is one such example. She looked at Manipur's traditional products, its handicrafts, and items made from bamboo and wood with a grand vision, and because of this vision, she transformed from a handicraft artist into a catalyst for change in people's lives."
PM Modi also praised her for popularizing traditional products and handicrafts and providing employment to many local people. PM Modi said, "Today, more than 50 artists are working in Margaret ji's unit, and through her hard work, she has developed a market for her products in several states, including Delhi."
'PM Modi's initiative strengthened my passion'
Margaret is very happy that PM Modi mentioned her in 'Mann Ki Baat'. She said, "PM Modi's initiative has strengthened my passion for promoting tribal traditional attire and handicrafts. Not only me, but many local artisans are also excited and inspired to promote our tribal crafts and heritage."
Margaret added, "PM Modi's initiative has boosted my confidence and energy so that I can expand my work on a larger scale and achieve even more in the coming days. Earlier, many local artisans were unknown. But today, through government platforms, they are getting recognition at the district, state, national, and even international levels."
