A source for *The Jerusalem Post* had claimed, "We would not be surprised if we received news of his martyrdom soon." Khamenei assumed the role of Supreme Leader on February 28, immediately following the assassination of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in attacks by the US and Israel.
