Russia's Overnight Attack on Kyiv Kills Nine
Russia launched an overnight barrage of missiles and drone attacks targeting the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv. Nine people were killed and 22 injured in these attacks. Residential and commercial buildings across several areas of the capital sustained damage, and fires broke out in multiple locations.
**Residential building damaged in Solomianskyi district**
According to Ukraine's State Emergency Service, a five-story building in Kyiv's Solomianskyi district was damaged and caught fire after debris fell on it. Rescue workers safely evacuated 35 people from the upper floors of the residential building. Two people died and eight were injured, including two children, in this incident.
**Seven killed in Darnytskyi district**
Meanwhile, in the Darnytskyi district, missile and drone strikes damaged administrative and non-residential buildings, as well as numerous homes and vehicles. A total of seven people died here, while 14 others were injured. A non-residential building in the capital's Shevchenkivskyi district was also hit, sparking a massive fire that rescue teams struggled to bring under control.
**Zelenskyy again requests Patriot missile defense systems**
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who has been leading the resistance against Russia, has called on the US and other Western nations to provide additional Patriot anti-ballistic missile defense systems to counter Russian missile attacks. Zelenskyy discussed the matter with US Vice President JD Vance and described his recent meeting with US President Donald Trump as positive and productive.
**Major Russian attack occurred two days ago as well**
It is worth noting that Saturday's attack on Kyiv came just two days after Russia had launched a large-scale assault using ballistic missiles and drones against multiple parts of Ukraine. Ten civilians were killed in that attack, while over 50 people were reported injured. During the same period, reports emerged that a Russian missile had entered Polish airspace.
**Growing fear of attacks among Kyiv residents**
Lyudmyla Nakonechna, a 64-year-old woman who took shelter in a bunker during the attack, recounted being woken up by the sound of loud explosions around 1:30 AM. She said the blasts shattered the windows and balcony of her home. She noted that Russian attacks are now occurring more frequently than before, increasing the mental strain on the people.
