The bullet train project between Mumbai and Ahmedabad is slowly progressing. Meanwhile, the construction of a 5 km long tunnel between Ghansoli and Shilphata has been completed. It is made from NATM i.e. New Austrian Tunneling Method. This tunnel is 4.881 km. is long It is 21 km from BKC to Shillaphata. Long Sea is part of the tunnel, which is 7 km. Part of it is being built under Thane Creek. Construction started in May 2024 Tunneling work by NATM for this section started in May 2024 and the first 2.7 km. The first breakthrough for the long tunnel section was completed on 09 July 2025 (between the ADIT and the shadow shaft). Along with this breakthrough, the 4.881 km long tunnel from Savali Shaft to the tunnel portal in Shilphata has been completed. The tunnel will be connected to the viaduct portion of the MAHSR project at Shilphata. The width of internal excavation of this NATM tunnel is 12.6 meters. Tunnel between Ghansoli and Shilphata An excellent example of engineering This excavation work has been completed under extremely difficult geological conditions. It is an excellent example of engineering. Modern engineering technology has been used successfully for drilling, blasting and survey work. Modern technologies are helping this project in the final stages of waterproofing, lining, finishing etc. An additional driven intermediate tunnel (ADIT) was constructed to speed up the process. This is the reason why it is possible to dig simultaneously from both sides of Ghansoli and Shilphata. The remaining 16 km tunnel will be constructed using Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM). The tunnel will be a 13.1 meter diameter single tube tunnel with dual tracks for both up and down lines. Extensive safety measures have been implemented at the site, including ground settlement markers, piezometers, inclinometers and strain gauges, to ensure safe and controlled tunneling operations without damaging nearby structures. Arrangements have been made to restrict the noise of the common people even at the tunnel construction sites. Adequate arrangements have been made to prevent unauthorized entry and ensure the safety of workers in sensitive and complex construction areas. Arrangements have been made to supply fresh air inside the tunnel for the construction workers. India's first 508 km long bullet train corridor is being built between Mumbai and Ahmedabad. 508 km. में से 321 km. Viaduct and 398 km. Peer's work has been completed 17 river bridges, 09 steel bridges have been completed More than 4 lakh noise barriers have been installed on the 206 km long route Construction of 206 km track bed has been completed More than 2000 OHE Masts have been installed, covering about 48 km. Covering the main line viaduct Excavation of 07 mountain tunnels is in progress in Palghar district All the stations of Gujarat are in the last stage of upgrading. Work has started on all three elevated stations and base slab casting work is in progress at Mumbai underground station in Maharashtra. Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project The work of digging a 4.88 km long tunnel between Shilphata and Ghansoli for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project was completed on Saturday morning in the presence of Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav. Describing it as a "historic achievement", Vaishnav said that the first phase of the high-speed corridor on the Surat-Bilimora stretch will begin in December 2027. The minister said the bullet train would be a means of "transportation for the middle class" and the fare would be "reasonable". The Railway Minister said that the 'Google Map' app shows the travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad as nine hours, but people will be able to cover this distance in two hours and seven minutes by bullet train. Vaishnav said that the first phase of the bullet train project will be launched in 2027 on the Surat-Bilimora section. It will reach Thane in 2028 and Bandra Kurla Complex in 2029. He said, "Train operations have been planned in such a way that one train will depart every half hour during morning and evening peak hours. Once the entire network is in place, one train will be available every 10 minutes during peak hours." The minister said that there will be no need to reserve tickets for travel between Mumbai and Ahmedabad and passengers will be able to collect tickets at the station.
