Chamoli: Landslide caused by rains caused terrible damage in Kuntari Laga Fali village, about 50 km from Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. On Friday, when the rescue team reached 38-year-old Kanta Devi while removing the debris, a heart-rending scene unfolded. Kanta Devi found her 10-year-old twin sons buried under the rubble with both her arms. It seemed as if she was trying to save her children till her last breath. The death of the mother and the two sons has plunged the entire village into grief.
A total of 5 dead bodies of the victims of this accident were recovered on Friday. Kanta Devi's family was among them. Her husband Kunwar Singh was pulled out alive after a 16-hour struggle on Thursday, but now he has no home, no family. His house was completely destroyed in this landslide. NDRF and SDRF teams were searching for life in the rubble for the last 32 hours. A path was made by cutting the debris with the help of cutter machines. The bodies of Kanta Devi and her sons were found after 1 pm on Friday. When the bodies were brought out at 1:30 pm, the entire area was plunged into mourning.

The people of Kuntari living in the relief and rescue camps had returned to the village in the morning in search of their loved ones, but they were devastated when they saw the dead bodies. There was heavy damage at 4 places on the road leading from Nandanagar to Bajabagh. Debris flowed through mountain rivers, which blocked roads. Half a kilometer away from Nandanagar, 8 families of Scheduled Caste living in Sau-Tanola Basti became homeless. In Kuntari Laga Fali, most of the houses were destroyed, after which the village survived.

The husband and wife died after being buried in the rubble of a house. Even those houses that were considered safe were not spared by the flood from the hilltop. Subedar Major Dilbar Singh Rawat, who lost his wife in this accident, tearfully said, 'I never thought that this would happen in my village. Our village was safe. Sangeeta Devi, who lost her husband many years ago, lived in Kuntari Laga Fali with her daughter. She used to earn her living by animal husbandry and farming. Nandanagar's former chief Chandrakala Sati, who lives a few meters away from Kuntari Laga Sarpani, said that the rain started from 7 pm on Wednesday night, which gradually intensified. At 2 o'clock in the night, loud noises started to be heard. He said, 'We had no idea that such a big disaster was going to happen. The whole village woke up and started looking for a safe place. In the morning it came to know that the neighborhood's house was completely engulfed in rubble.'
Narendra Singh, who saved many lives, lost his life
In this tragedy Narendra Singh lost his life alerting the villagers. His warning saved many people's lives but he saved himself from being caught in the rubble. Avtar Singh Gusai of Sera village blamed unplanned development for the tragedy. He said that the accident happened due to improper removal of debris during road construction from Sera to Mokh and upper villages. In the rain, this debris flowed into the river and completely destroyed Sera village. Homeless people, broken families and broken dreams have now become the story of these villages. The administration and rescue teams are engaged in relief efforts, but the villagers' pain and uncertain future are still in question.
