The number of new DEMAT accounts is 40% decrease
The number of new demat accounts in India has declined. In the first 9 months in 2024, 3.61CR accounts were opened and 2.18CR accounts were administered between January and September this year. This means that it has decreased by almost 40% compared to last year. In 2024, an average of 40 lakh accounts per month were recorded, with an average of 24 lakh accounts in 2025. Experts say that this is due to the lack of large returns and a decrease in IPOs.
