There Are Temples Where Men Are Barred: Centre
The Centre has defended the restrictions on the entry of women aged 10 to 50 into the Sabarimala temple. It stated that this constitutes not discrimination, but rather a mark of respect for a custom that has prevailed for decades. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta presented these arguments during the Supreme Court hearing on the matter. He pointed out that there are indeed temples in the country where men are not permitted to enter. Therefore, he argued, this issue is not about male dominance or gender-centric beliefs.
