It is said that ‘even if a hundred guilty people escape, not a single innocent person should be punished’. But Subrahmanyam Vedam, an Indian-American, spent 43 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. He was recently acquitted after being imprisoned for murder in 1980. However, the court intervened when immigration officials re-arrested him in a decades-old drug case. The case was stayed and he was granted temporary relief.
