Markapuram: Displaced residents of the Veligonda project area are vacating their villages. Leaving behind the homes where they were born and raised, as well as the lands cultivated by generations of their families—and parting with the memories attached to these places—they have begun their journey toward new settlements with heavy hearts. They are making alternative arrangements to stay in rented accommodation temporarily until their homes in the rehabilitation colonies are ready, with families scattering to different locations. Despite this anguish, they find some solace in the hope that their sacrifice will benefit lakhs of people.
