Andhra Pradesh, December 24: A YSR Congress worker named Ajay Dev was allegedly kicked by a woman in Sri Sathya Sai district for asking her not to burst crackers on the birthday of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy as she was pregnant. In a strong move following public outcry, the Andhra Pradesh police paraded the man who assaulted the pregnant woman on Tuesday. On December 21, former Chief Minister Y.S. A pregnant woman was brutally attacked during the birthday celebrations of Jagan Mohan Reddy. The police paraded the main accused Ajay Deva in front of the public from the RTC bus stand circle in Kadiri town of Sri Sathya Sai district to the rural police station. Ajay Deva was made to walk barefoot. He attacked her after a woman named Sandhyarani requested him to burst crackers at a distance as there were many people there. Police said that he, along with YSRCP worker Anjinappa, strangled her to death and kicked her in the stomach with the intention of harming her unborn child. Taking the incident seriously, the police arrested Ajay Deva and sent him to judicial custody. Efforts are on to trace and arrest the second accused, Anjinappa, who is currently absconding. Kadiri Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Shiva Narayanaswamy said that the attack was carried out with a clear criminal intent and strict legal action has been taken. The incident came after the YSRCP alleged that Andhra Pradesh has become unsafe for women under the Chandrababu Naidu-led coalition government. They alleged that the government is misusing the police machinery to suppress political opponents instead of protecting citizens.
