Gudivada Amarnath Sentenced to 6 Months Imprisonment
Andhra Pradesh: Varalakshmi, the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate of Visakhapatnam, has sentenced former YCP Minister Gudivada Amarnath to six months of imprisonment. The court also ordered him to pay a fine of ₹5,000. On April 17, 2016, Amarnath had commenced a hunger strike unto death at the GVMC Gandhi statue to press for the demand of a separate railway zone. The police subsequently registered a case against him, charging him with attempted suicide. The verdict regarding this case was delivered today. Following the judgment, Amarnath stated that he intends to appeal the decision in a higher court.
