Not a desert... but the sorry state of the perennial Krishna River!
This is not a desert. It is certainly not barren or wasteland. This is a stretch of the Krishna River, renowned as a perennial river. It flows through the Chandarlapadu and Kanchikacherla mandals, located upstream of the Prakasam Barrage and downstream of the Pulichintala Project in NTR district. Today, however, not a drop of water is to be seen. Years of indiscriminate sand mining have transformed the riverbed into a desert-like landscape filled with trees and shrubs. Even during the current monsoon season, it remains completely dry.
