**Truck Plunges into Gorge En Route to Mata Naina Devi Shrine**
Pilgrims from Panipat, Fatehabad, and other parts of Haryana had arrived at Peer Nigah in groups with their relatives on Sunday. After offering prayers and organizing a *bhandara* (community feast) at Peer Nigah, the group of 50–60 pilgrims set out for the Mata Naina Devi shrine on Tuesday morning. Just two kilometers from the Peer Nigah temple, the truck carrying them went out of control and plunged into a deep gorge, leaving more than 50 pilgrims severely injured.
Chaos and cries for help erupted at the scene immediately after the accident. Passersby and locals worked hard to rescue the pilgrims trapped inside the truck. The injured were promptly transported to the Regional Hospital in Una via ambulances and private vehicles belonging to locals. Due to the critical condition of some pilgrims, they were referred to PGI Chandigarh immediately after receiving first aid. Meanwhile, those in stable condition are being sent back to their native village, Indri, in vehicles.
Upon receiving news of the incident, police and district administration teams rushed to the site. The Tehsildar of Una initiated measures to provide immediate relief to the injured.
**Pilgrims Visit Annually for the Flag-Hoisting Ritual**
It is reported that, as they do every year, the pilgrims had come to the Peer Nigah shrine to perform the flag-hoisting ritual. Their itinerary included visiting the Mata Naina Devi shrine before returning home; however, at a dangerous bend near Peer Nigah, the truck driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to fall into the deep gorge. The police have registered a case regarding the incident, and an investigation into the cause of the accident is underway. It is worth noting that just a few days ago, an Alto car plunged into a deep gorge in Chamba, Himachal Pradesh. Five people lost their lives in this tragic accident.
