The Centre has prepared plans to set up a hydro power plant on the Brahmaputra river at a cost of Rs 6.4 lakh crore. It is looking to set up a plant with a hydro electric capacity of 76 gigawatts by 2047. The plan includes 208 large hydro projects in 12 sub-basins in the northeastern states. It has been stated that 64.9 gigawatts of potential capacity can be generated through them, 11.1 gigawatts from pumped storage plants.
