The Dispute Over Bhadradri Rama: What is the Controversy?
Telangana: Traditionally, Bhadradri Ramayya was revered as the son of Dasharatha and a member of the Vashishta *gotra* (lineage), while Goddess Sita was associated with the Gautama *gotra*. In 2022, an individual approached the High Court, contending that since 2012, scholars at the temple have begun identifying the presiding deity as 'Rama Narayana'—consequently reciting his *gotra* as 'Achyuta' and Sita Devi's as 'Soubhagya.' A committee constituted by the Court submitted its report to the Endowments Department in 2024. As the report was not made public, the petitioner approached the Court once again. A hearing on this matter is scheduled to take place today.
