Trump Criticizes Israel’s Tactics Against Hezbollah
US President Donald Trump has criticized Israel's tactics in the fight against Hezbollah. Speaking during the G7 summit in France, Trump stated that Syria should take responsibility for the battle against Hezbollah.
Questioning Israel's military actions, Trump remarked that the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has dragged on for too long. The US President said, "Israel has been fighting Hezbollah for a very long time, and a lot of people are getting killed. When you are looking for someone, you don't necessarily have to bring down an entire apartment building—because many people live in those buildings, and I can tell you, not all of them are Hezbollah members."
**Impact on the deal with Iran**
He also expressed displeasure that Israel's approach was negatively affecting a major potential deal with Iran. Trump said, "I am not happy with how Israel handled the Lebanon and Hezbollah situation. They should have done it quickly. It just keeps dragging on. And when that happens, it has a bad effect on that big deal—the deal with Iran."
Trump appeared particularly annoyed by the Israeli strike on Hezbollah in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, on Sunday—an attack launched just two hours before the announcement of an interim peace agreement between the US and Iran.
**Wants to hand over responsibility to Syria**
Donald Trump suggested that Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara could handle the fight against Hezbollah more effectively. Trump said, "I suggested to Israel that they let Syria deal with Hezbollah. Honestly, I think they would do a better job of it." Praising the Syrian President, Trump said, "He is very capable and has been very good to me. He has safeguarded everything I asked of him... and if Israel cannot get the job done without killing others, then he will do it. Syria will do it."
