UN expresses concern over the conduct of Indian police
The United Nations has expressed concern regarding the harsh approach adopted by the police toward protests by young people in India. Sixteen UN experts issued a joint statement addressing the unrest that has been unfolding across the country—including in Delhi—over the past three months. They urged the Indian government to uphold the right to peaceful protest. It is worth noting that protests have been taking place in India for several months, centered on issues such as changes to the education system and the removal of 130 million voters from the electoral rolls.
