$55,000 for Every Child
Singapore: The world, which until recently was clamoring with campaigns and advertisements discouraging childbirth, has now begun to cherish children. A declining birth rate and an aging population—which poses a growing concern—are prompting Singapore to adopt innovative measures. As part of this initiative, the country has announced a financial grant of 55,000 Singapore dollars (approximately ₹41 lakh) for every child born. This amount will be disbursed annually until the child turns 17. "We will also extend maternity leave," announced Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.
