Israeli Military Demolishes Underground Hezbollah Base Near Border
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced today (Friday) that they have destroyed several significant underground tunnels beneath the Beaufort Ridge in southern Lebanon. This action was carried out during a "limited activity" within the security zone. The move comes as US-brokered talks between Israel and Lebanon are set to resume next month in Rome, Italy.
**Destruction of Hezbollah's Central Command Tunnel Network**
The Israeli military stated that this tunnel network served as a central command center for Hezbollah, where commanders managed combat operations and issued orders for attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians.
**Iran Planned and Funded the Tunnel Construction**
According to the IDF, this was a multi-level underground tunnel network constructed by Hezbollah over the course of two decades. The IDF noted that the network served as a central command center for Hezbollah's 'Badr Unit' in southern Lebanon and was planned and funded by the Iranian regime. The IDF stated that the network posed a threat to northern Israel, as it was located approximately six kilometers from the Metula and Galilee Panhandle areas.
During hostilities, dozens of explosive devices, UAVs, and anti-tank missiles were launched against Israeli civilians and IDF troops from this underground network. The IDF has destroyed a significant portion of the subterranean tunnel system.
**IDF Deployment at Beaufort Ridge Completed**
The Israeli military announced that it had completed its deployment at the Beaufort Ridge in Lebanon over the past few weeks. Additionally, the IDF maintained operational control over the underground tunnel network and prepared for its destruction. Israel to Abide by Ceasefire Agreement
At the same time, the Israeli military has stated that it is committed to adhering to the ceasefire agreement with Lebanon while continuing operations aimed at eliminating threats to its forces. However, US President Donald Trump has expressed dissatisfaction with Israel regarding its actions against Hezbollah; he had stated that he wants Syria to take charge in Lebanon.
