Srisailam Festivals: The Divine Couple on the Bhringi Vahanam
Andhra Pradesh: The Ugadi festivities have commenced with great pomp and grandeur at Srisailam, a renowned Jyotirlinga shrine. On the first day of the celebrations, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati—the divine couple—appeared before devotees seated upon the Bhringi Vahanam (celestial vehicle). After receiving special prayers at the Alankara Mandapam, the processional deities were taken on a magnificent procession through the town. A display of various traditional art forms preceding the procession greatly enthralled the devotees. These festivities are scheduled to continue for five days, until the 20th of this month.
