Taken to Court for Being Called "Aunty" — ₹1.8 Lakh Fine Imposed
In London, Ilda Esteves (61), a woman of Indian origin, took legal action—and won—after being addressed as "Aunty." She works as a nurse for the National Health Service (NHS). She filed a lawsuit alleging that a colleague harassed her by repeatedly calling her "Aunty," despite her insistence that she be addressed by her name; she argued that this behavior constituted age and gender discrimination. After hearing the case, the court ordered the National Health Service to pay her ₹1.8 lakhs as compensation.
