Minor Girl Elopes with Man: Chhattisgarh High Court Delivers Key Verdict
The Chhattisgarh High Court has clarified that if a minor girl voluntarily leaves with a man, cases of kidnapping or charges under the POCSO Act should not be registered against him. In 2022, a 15-year-old girl left her home with a 24-year-old man. The pair lived together in Hyderabad and Vijayawada for a month. Acting on a complaint filed by the girl's father, the police located the couple and subsequently registered a case against the man under the POCSO Act. While the trial court sentenced the accused to 20 years in prison, the High Court overturned the verdict.
